Always A Judson Legacy Scholarship for Graduate Study

Founded in 1838 in Marion, Alabama, Judson College educated generations of women to use their knowledge, faith, and talents to improve society. Its graduates went on to achieve success and lead in communities worldwide. Though Judson closed in July 2021, Always A Judson honors its legacy by offering a scholarship for graduate students with strong ties to the college and a commitment to furthering their education.

Always A Judson, Inc. is proud to announce the Legacy Scholarship, awarded annually to a woman with a direct Judson College connection—whether as a former student, faculty, staff, trustee, or family member—who is pursuing a master’s degree or higher. The scholarship may be used for tuition, books, or other educational expenses.

Judson legacies pursuing a master’s or higher are encouraged to apply!

Scholarship Name and Purpose:

  • Name: Always A Judson Legacy Scholarship and the Dr. George Williams Memorial Scholarship

  • Purpose: To support women graduate students who have a strong affiliation with Judson College and are committed to advancing their educations.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have a direct legacy connection to Judson College in Marion, Alabama, as, or through family members who are, former students, faculty, staff, or Board of Trustees members.

  • Must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program or higher.

Award Amount:

The scholarship will provide a one-time award of $1,000.

Application Process:

Interested students should submit an application, which includes:

  • Personal information (name, address, email, phone number, etc.)

  • A one-to-two-page essay detailing your:

    • Relationship with Judson College (see Eligibility Criteria above),

    • Undergraduate institution, major, and G.P.A.,

    • Academic and extra-curricular involvement during undergraduate studies,

    • Current educational objectives,

    • Participation in community activities, and

    • How this scholarship will help you reach your academic and career goals and increase your impact on others.

  • Proof of enrollment in a master’s or higher-level program.

Application deadline:

October 30, 2025; Late applications will not be considered.

Selection Criteria:

  • A scholarship committee, comprising members of the AAJ Board of Advisors and Directors.

  • Selection will be based on:

    • Demonstrated commitment to the Judson College Legacy

    • Academic achievements

    • Clarity of educational and career goals

    • Commitment to improving society and service to others

Notification and Disbursement:

  • Recipients will be notified via a letter and announced at the Judson Legacy Tea on December 7th in Birmingham, AL.

  • The scholarship amount will be a one-time award disbursed directly to the yearly winner for educational expenses, ranging from tuition, books, and room and board to relevant internet, software, child care, and transportation costs.
