AAJ Release V. Burnes Award
The first annual Judson Legacy Award was presented to alumna Valerie Pope Burnes, Ph.D. by AAJ President Cynthia Gore and VP Laurie Gruenloh following their AAJ presentation during Saturday’s Sister Assembly. The award was given citing the organization’s deepest gratitude for her diligence and selflessness during the difficult path of identifying and organizing efforts to secure Judson’s historical items.
“For the past 10 months and despite her personal health challenges, she has utilized her archival knowledge and love for Judson to lead our alumnae to success, securing Judson’s history through these auctions,”
said Gruenloh.
“Without her attentiveness and persistence demonstrated by her respect and appreciation for Judson’s historic relevance, much of our history would have been scattered forever.”
The new Judson Legacy Award will be presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to preserve our unique story.
“This effort of preservation is so our story and its far-reaching impact lives on to promote women’s education,”
said Gore.
